History and Context

This struggle did not begin on October 7th. ّIn reality it began over 100 years ago. This historic moment comes as a response to the decades of ongoing land theft, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing carried out by Israel, with the support of Western nations.

The Palestinian struggle is a struggle between the colonizer and the colonized, the oppressor and the oppressed—a struggle that will remain ongoing until the siege is broken, until all political prisoners are freed, until Palestine is liberated, and until all refugees are able to return home. The steadfast Palestinian people of Gaza—who have been living under a suffocating and brutal 16-year long blockade—are showing the world the meaning of perseverance under brutal occupation. The amount of people displaced in Gaza is equal to 150% of Austin’s population, and as Austin is the Capitol of Texas- the 8th largest economy of the world and a staunch supporter of Israeli occupation- it is imperative for Austin-based organizations and activists to take a stand on this issue.
